A série é estrelada por Andy Samberg, ex-integrante do humorístico Saturday Night Live, e Andre Braugher (Men of a Certain Age, Last Resort).Samberg é Jake Peralta, detetive imaturo que consegue realizar um bom trabalho mas é incapaz de obedecer ordens ou seguir regras. Até que chega na delegacia o capitão Ray Holt (Braugher), um comandante que está determinado a colocar ordem no local. Holt e Peralta divergem em quase tudo.
