Situado na Inglaterra, em 1935, quando a inglesa Louisa Durrell, cuja vida tinha desmoronado, decidiu mudar de Bournemouth para a ilha grega de Corfu. O marido dela tinha morrido alguns anos antes, e ela tem problemas financeiros, quando de repente anuncia que ela a seus quatro filhos que se mudarão para uma ilha, e uma batalha homérica se segue conforme a família se adapta à vida na ilha, especialmente quando eles descobrem que Corfu não tinha ainda eletricidade, naquela época. Mas, é barato, um paraíso terrestre e a família Durrell dá o grande passo que mudará para sempre as vidas deles.
Placed in 1935 when the Englishwoman Louisa Durrell, whose life fell apart decided to move from London to the island of Corfu,Greece. Her husband had died years before and she had financial problem. Announces the four children that move to our island and Homeric battle ensues and denial, especially when they discover that Corfu has not even electricity at that time. But is cheap, an earthly paradise and the big step for the Durrell family happens.
